1. Being close to a Starbucks. Unfortunately, you don’t have a lot of control over this at the moment, but your home’s proximity to a Starbucks is key to its value. You may not be a coffee drinker, but a lot of people are, and a recent study by Zillow reported that homes located within a quarter-mile of a Starbucks increased 97% in value from 1997 to 2014. As you can see, being within walking distance of a cup of joe is worth a lot of money.
2. Painting certain rooms in your home blue.This task you have a little more control over. If you’ve been thinking of painting the interior of your home to get it ready to sell, don’t go with gray—go with blue. According to reports, homes with blue kitchens sold for an $1,800 premium, and homes with light blue and periwinkle bathrooms can earn you an extra $5,000.
3. Add a barnhouse door or a farmhouse sink. If you’re remodeling, try getting back to your roots without actually feeling like it. Homes that touted “barnhouse doors” and “farmhouse sinks” in their marketing sold 57 days faster and for 13.4% more than what was expected. These are easy remodels that are cool and trendy.
